The Executive Mayor provides strategic direction and political leadership to the municipality, chairing the Mayoral Committee and overseeing the administration.
Role & Responsibilities
The Executive Mayor is the political head of the Ngwathe Local Municipality. As provided for in the Municipal Structures Act (Act 117 of 1998), the Executive Mayor chairs the Mayoral Committee and has delegated executive functions from the Council.
- Chair the Mayoral Committee and oversee its work
- Identify the needs of the municipality and recommend appropriate priorities
- Evaluate the performance of the municipality in achieving its IDP objectives
- Recommend to Council the approval of policies, by-laws and the budget
- Manage the legislative programme of the Council
- Oversee intergovernmental and public relations on behalf of the municipality
